Senior Oracle Developer/DBA

Remote but will have travel requirements to Sheffield, Newcastle and London on occasion

£50,000 - £60,000

Experience working on AWS and as an applications DBA supporting a large Oracle database application. This role will involve development work (30%) and DBA work (70%). There is a lot of database code to support and develop which is written in PL/SQL.

The successful applicant will be one of two DBAs responsible for maintaining the current AWS hosting of National Delius and other Ministry of Justice applications. There is some flexibility regarding home working, but the applicant will also be expected to work from time to time at locations in Sheffield, London and Newcastle. Will be required to hold government clearance of SC level - this means a minimum of 5 years UK residency and proof of residency with no more than 6 months outside the UK in that 5 year plus right to work documentation / LTR in UK unless a UK national.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of Oracle Enterprise Database Server software including installation, maintenance, performance tuning and monitoring.
  • Maintaining AWS hosting of National Delius and related applications.
  • Carrying out scheduled database refreshes and restores
  • Support and maintenance of the application data for an Offender Case Management System using SQL and PL/SQL;
  • Development and performance tuning of database code using PL/SQL to support the application.
  • Designing backup and recovery strategies and maintaining backup and recovery operations using RMAN;
  • Support for production, testing and development environments.
  • Support, configuration and administration of Oracle databases;
  • Support for PostgreSQL AS installation, maintenance, performance tuning, backup and recovery and migration utilizing Enterprise DB product set along with open-source modules;
  • Preparation of all database production support work instructions and documentation from a service delivery perspective.
  • Applying application releases deployed from Merant PVCS (or similar);
  • Provide technical guidance to development teams with regard to database design, usage and operational maintainability.
  • Implementing and documenting Oracle standards and operational procedures; adhering to company release management standards;
  • Apply new application schema releases, Installing / upgrading / migrating / patching Oracle Enterprise software, trouble shooting and house-keeping.
