Web Development Manager

A fast growing business based in the Southampton area are seeking an experienced Web Development Manager to join the business and take ownership of their Web Development function.

The company are in a period of growth, so this is an excellent opportunity for a strong Web Development Manager to join the business and have a significant impact on the future growth of the business and team.

This role is a good opportunity for a Web Development Manager who has experience within in web development, management and growth of a team/function.

This is a varied role and as a Web Development Manager you will:

  • Be responsible for the line management of the Web Development Team
  • Act as a technical authority for the business providing advice and support on website best practices
  • Propose and plan new website technologies to enhance customer experience
  • Participate in strategic company initiatives to help improve the standing of the company such as contributing to ISO standards certification and company job evaluations
  • Ensure that Web development is carried out according to business development standards
  • Oversee code reviews to ensure development standards are maintained
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using industry practices
  • Manage and maintain webservers to optimise delivery of content
  • Provide support to the business for all website related issues
  • Fulfil line management responsibilities such as approving leave requests, resource planning, conducting annual reviews and other performance appraisals, completing necessary admin to support these tasks
  • Actively collaborate with business analysts to provide technical insight during the analysis project phase
  • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs
  • Project manage and coordinate team resources to meet requirements and deadlines
  • Integrate data from various back-end services using API's and Oracle databases
  • Upgrade legacy code to modern standardised code
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Create test documentation to instruct testing team how and what to test
  • Collaborate with tech authors to create and maintain software documentation
  • Plan and implement deployment process for websites
  • Participate in the recruitment process as required, including liaising with Senior Management, external recruitment consultancies and conducting/leading interviews
  • Bug fixing
  • To have extensive knowledge of core business systems and processes, to ensure the websites integrates seamlessly with them
  • Attend planning and specification review meetings with other Dev Group management to ensure that work is appropriately allocated and scheduled according to the needs of the business and the skills of available resource

The successful Web Development Manager will have:

  • Knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Angular JS, jQuery, AJAX, JSON, GIT, Jenkins
  • 5+ years' experience in a web development role and at least 2 years in a management role
  • Understanding of MVC framework
  • Experience in implementing secure payment gateways for high volume online payments
  • Excellent knowledge of relational database systems, Object Oriented Programming and web application development
  • Experience of implementing different IT development methodologies
  • Knowledge of data security and security best practices
  • Ability to work with, and update legacy code
  • Understanding of source code management and the code release process
  • Degree in a computer related subject or equivalent qualification

The successful Web Development Manager will have proven experience within Web Development functions.
