Background

The business has been been part (majority) purchased. The main element of this split work is the Tenancy activities.

You will support the creation of two new tenants which we are migrating to from the existing old tenant.

This work is being handled by the existing internal team in conjunction with a third party and migration toolset.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with strong, hands‑on expertise across the Microsoft ecosystem including Azure, Microsoft 365, Defender suite, and associated third party security and management tools.

The primary focus of this role is to support and execute technical workstreams relating to a major organisational split project, covering identity, infrastructure, network, and application separation.

Alongside the split programme, the contractor will also support wider infrastructure activities, including network separation, application migration/split work, and BAU or project‑related requests provided directly by parent company.

This is a technical, delivery‑focused role requiring excellent documentation skills, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to work independently while aligned with programme goals.

Key Responsibilities

Primary - Split Programme

• Deliver hands‑on technical work for the organisational split, including:
• Azure resource separation and migration
• Microsoft 365 tenant-related activities (identity, security, licensing, configuration, etc.)
• Security posture assessment and implementation across Defender, Entra ID, Azure, and M365
• End user device policies and management
• Work closely with the IT Systems Manager on day‑to‑day priorities, plans, and technical deliverables.
• Produce clear documentation, diagrams, and technical records in line with project governance.
• Engage with parent company teams to ensure alignment, clarity, and accurate understanding of required changes.

Secondary - Wider Infrastructure & Support

• Assist with network split activities, including firewall, routing, segmentation, SD-WAN, and connectivity workstreams.
• Support application split activities, including infrastructure readiness, identity changes, access reviews, and supporting migration tasks.
• Respond to infrastructure-related inquiries, fact‑finding exercises, and documentation requests.
• Complete hands‑on technical tasks relating to operational infrastructure as required (Azure, M365, security tooling, networking, servers, and endpoints).

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in mid-senior level infrastructure engineering roles within Microsoft environments.
• Strong working knowledge and practical experience with:
• Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS, networking, governance, monitoring)
• Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, Entra ID)
• Microsoft Defender suite (Defender for Endpoint, Cloud Apps, Identity, Office 365, etc.)
• Entra ID identity and access management
• Azure networking (VNets, private endpoints, firewalls, routing)
• Strong documentation skills (runbooks, design documents, diagrams).
• Ability to work independently, manage workloads, and communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with network separation, SD‑WAN, firewalls, and routing changes.
• Experience delivering infrastructure changes within large programmes, ideally involving tenant separation, infrastructure split or merger/acquisition scenarios.
• Familiarity with governance frameworks, ITIL practices, and change management.
• Experience in hybrid environments (on‑prem / Azure / SaaS).
