Winners Trip Diary by Ian Taylor, Recruitment Team Leader
February 2015

The 2015 winner’s trip saw us heading to Dubai. After an early finish on Wednesday afternoon we ventured to the airport, checked in and indulged in a late lunch washed down with a few gin & tonics in the lounge before the overnight flight.

Touching down after little or no sleep we made our way to the hotel to check in, change and then headed straight to Emirates Golf Club. Conditions were perfect; thirty-two degrees, sunny, not a cloud in the sky. Unfortunately, the standard of golf wasn’t quite as good. Builders working on a house to the right of the 15th fairway got more than they bargained for when a wayward three wood ricocheted off the roof. Luckily no windows (or builders) were damaged. Having finished one of our more adventurous rounds of golf we headed back to the hotel to soak up the last of the afternoon sunshine and propped up the pool bar before a civilised evening of fillet steaks and red wine.

Thursday

Day two was largely spent lounging by the pool before setting off to the Meydan hotel to for a night of horse racing. We had a table in the Winner’s Circle restaurant offering panoramic views over the racecourse. Research done on the Racing Post website went to waste – unbeknown to us this was to be a bet-free environment! A three course meal and a few drinks more than compensated.

Friday

Day three took us to The Atlantis hotel for “brunch”. Effectively a four hour, all you can eat/drink, window between midday and 4pm offering every conceivable type of cuisine. It was interesting to see some of the combinations being selected – sushi to start, roast beef, curry, Chinese, Thai. Great food and a few too many drinks were consumed before we were shuttled to a rooftop bar/club within The Atlantis resort where we spent the rest of the evening.

Saturday was a day of recovery and was mainly spent in the pool before watching a couple of six nations games in the
bar. Orange juices & lemonades all round.
