Business Systems Manager - Freight / Logistics

My client have a dedicated software package with over 50 integrated modules to aid their business in freight forwarding and require a Business Systems Manager to ensure the software is being used to its full potential across the business which is made up of approx. 500 employees across 5 sites. The role will include line management of 2 IT Support Engineers who deal with the day to day running of the IT infrastructure across the business along with direct liaison with the outsourced IT company in relation to upgrades, configuration etc within the business.
Responsibilities / Projects
- Overhaul of current IT software package to enhance its use resulting in cost savings for the business
- Amend and implement current processes in relation to imports and exports processes
- Introduce new processes, for example a barcodes system to include real-time tracking options
- Implement suitable procedures for corded or cordless barcode usage in warehouse - whether that be lasers, CCD sensors, cameras etc.
- Manage the CCTV across a large site
This role would suit someone who has worked in the freight forwarding / logistics / shipping industry who has previously implemented a software system to enable the process of freight forwarding and shipping to be executed effectively. Only someone who had done this type of role before will know the challenges of the position, from implementing change, facing resistance, HMRC Security, tracking options, Customs Declarations, Mobile Tracking, Warehouse Management, Scanning Systems etc. Initially in the role you will be on a fact finding mission to see what parts of the system / process is working and what isn't working and then begin to plan and implement processes to enhance the business.
You will have the backing of the Group Business Manager who has been with the business for 20+ years as well as the Owners of the company who will support you and take your lead on business / software decisions. They are currently using a product called ForwardOffice (FCL), if you have any knowledge / background of using this product that is highly beneficial but not essential.
