Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Solutions Architect / Technical Lead to play a critical role in designing and delivering innovative, mission-critical software solutions within the MoD. As a Solutions Architect, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to provide technical leadership, solutions design and architecture and to lead client engagement and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solution Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to define the architecture and design of software solutions that meet the needs of the customer.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to development teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.
  • Requirements Analysis: Analyse and understand customer & project requirements to develop effective technical solutions
  • Coding and Development: Engage in hands-on coding and development, contributing to the implementation of software solutions in C++, Java, C#, and Python.
  • Agile Methodologies: Champion Agile methodologies and ensure project teams follow Agile practices for efficient project delivery.
  • System Integration: Oversee the integration of various software components and systems to ensure seamless operation and compatibility.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality control standards and conduct regular code reviews to guarantee the highest quality of software.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and design specifications.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and issues in projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
  • Client Collaboration: Collaborate with MoD clients and stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and ensure the alignment of solutions with organizational objectives.
  • Technology Evaluation: Stay current with emerging technologies and assess their applicability to MoD projects, recommending appropriate tools and frameworks.


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Solutions Architect, preferably in the defence or government sector.
  • Strong software design, programming and architecture skills in Object Oriented and Server-Side technology, i.e. C++, Java, C#, Python.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies and project management.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience in technical leadership and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Relevant certifications in software architecture and development.

- Previous experience with Ministry of Defence projects or similar government agencies.

- Knowledge of simulation software and the use of immersive technologies such as VR, AR and 3D rendering.
