Contract Systems Administator - 3 Month Contract - Portsmouth

As the Systems Administrator you will be an experienced and technically minded individual with strong hands-on experience. You will be responsible for the following areas:

  • Technical support & maintenance of the Wintel Server environment
  • Monitoring and scripting within the LINUX sphere
  • Daily monitoring and health checks
  • Patching
  • Virtualisation of technology platforms
  • Shared storage
  • Backup/DR environments
  • Internal project consultancy
  • Managing data networking

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Advanced or expert level knowledge of the following:

  • Wintel and/or LINUX operating systems (such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003 / 2008 r2 / 2012 / 2016, CentOS, Redhat, Ubuntu)
  • Authentication and directory services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, GPO management)
  • Windows system management tools, philosophies and methods
  • Windows/LINUX automation (scripting, imaging, installation, management)
  • Antivirus/malware and patch management technologies, such as WSUS
  • TCP/IP networking LAN/WAN (DNS, DHCP, RAS, VPN) MPLS
  • Collaborative technologies, such as Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, SharePoint, Citrix
  • Virtualization concepts and functional working skills with various virtualization technologies such as VMware and Cloud-based technology, such as Azure
  • Shared storage concepts and functional working skills with various shared storage technologies (provisioning LUNs, expanding volumes, configuring RAID, etc.) Dell/EMC arrays and HP MSAs
  • Advanced knowledge of monitoring using appropriate tools for example Solarwinds, New Relic using SNMPv3 / SNMPv2 / WMI protocols
  • Strong understanding of Windows/ Linux and network security best practices and strategies
  • Strong understanding of load balancers & WAFs such as Netscaler, Zen load balancer and load balancer .org, Big IP F5s
  • Analytical and process-oriented approach to issues and assigned tasks
  • Advanced level diagnostic method and skills in a variety of environments

Desirable Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Information Technology 3rd line infrastructure/devops support
  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent training preferred / experience.
  • Relevant Certifications:

- MCSE
- VCP / VCA
- CCNA
